A newly released drought monitor map shows much of Tennessee continues to experience dry conditions heading into early April.
According to data released Thursday, April 2, large portions of the state are classified as either abnormally dry or in moderate drought. The driest conditions appear concentrated in parts of East Tennessee, where areas are experiencing severe to extreme drought.
Middle Tennessee, including much of the central portion of the state, is largely seeing abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions, while West Tennessee shows a mix of similar dry patterns with some localized variation.
The data, which is valid as of March 31, indicates that while widespread extreme drought is not present across the entire state, ongoing dryness continues to impact multiple regions.
Officials typically use the U.S. Drought Monitor to assess conditions affecting agriculture, water supply, and wildfire risk.
Residents are encouraged to stay aware of local conditions.
