The Alabama Forestry Commission is urging residents to avoid outdoor burning as critical fire weather conditions are expected across the state.
Officials say elevated wind speeds, low humidity, and a dry front moving through Alabama are creating dangerous conditions, increasing the risk of wildfires.
A Fire Danger Advisory is in effect Friday, March 27, with conditions expected to worsen to a Fire Alert on Saturday, March 28. The threat is expected to decrease slightly by Sunday, March 29, returning to a Fire Danger Advisory.
Burn permits will be limited Friday to certified prescribed burn managers only, and no outdoor burning permits will be issued Saturday. Regular permitting is expected to resume Sunday if weather conditions improve.
The Forestry Commission says recent wildfire activity has already burned thousands of acres across the state, and warns that fires could spread quickly under current conditions.
Residents are encouraged to use caution and avoid any activities that could spark a fire.
