The Lexington Lions Club and other Lions Clubs across North Alabama are leading a coordinated disaster relief effort after a powerful tornado struck Lexington Sunday night.
The storm caused extensive damage across the community and surrounding rural areas. Early assessments show thousands of homes were impacted, with many still dealing with damage. Numerous family homes suffered major structural loss, income-producing farms were destroyed, and several local businesses were damaged. While some injuries were reported, no fatalities have been confirmed.
Relief operations are being coordinated through a Lions Disaster Relief Trailer positioned near Lexington Town Hall and the public library. The trailer is serving as a central hub for supply distribution and volunteer coordination.
Lions volunteers are providing food, bottled water, cleanup supplies, clothing, gas assistance, support for local food banks, and temporary transportation for residents who lost vehicles.
The effort is supported by a disaster relief grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation. Funding will help Lions assist more than 100 households, focusing on families who lost homes or sustained severe damage.
District Governor Craig Gadow said Lions are working directly with local emergency management officials, community organizations, and faith-based groups to ensure help reaches those who need it most.
Residents in need of immediate food, water, clothing, or cleanup supplies are asked to contact Lexington Town Hall, the Lexington Lions Club, or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department and provide a list of needed items.
