The Lauderdale County Commission will reopen two county-maintained parks — Wheeler Campground, located on Alabama 101 near Wheeler Dam, and Brush Creek Park, located on Lauderdale 14 near Waterloo — on April 10.
Reservations will be required for Wheeler Campground only during the first weekend the park is open. The Solid Waste office will begin accepting reservations on April 8 at 8 a.m. at 256-760-5878. Individuals may reserve only one campsite, and payment must be made to campground attendants by 4 p.m. on April 10. Any campsite not paid for by that time will be released. After the opening weekend, campsites at Wheeler Campground will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheeler Campground offers water and electric hookups as well as a dumping station, with fees of $15 per night and $10 per night for senior citizens.
Brush Creek Park offers primitive camping and pad camping for RVs and pull campers, with water hookups and a dumping station. Electrical hookups for RVs are planned but not yet installed. Camping at Brush Creek costs $10 per night, and reservations are not required.
Camping stay limits have changed based on recommendations from the Tennessee Valley Authority, which owns the park properties. Campers may stay a maximum of 14 days at RV sites, after which they must leave for 10 days before returning. Tent campers may stay up to 10 days, then must leave for seven days before returning.
