Frances Virginia Thornberry Moore, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Mrs. Moore was a retired teacher’s assistant at Lawrenceburg Public School, where she lovingly mentored and cared for students for over 20 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and faithfully attended New Prospect Baptist Church for many years, where she served as a Sunday school and Bible Drill teacher. She cherished the precious memories and lifelong friendships she made there, considering many of its members as family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorsey and Claira Sue Totty Thornberry; the love of her life, her husband, Doyce Allen Moore; and her brother–in–law, Thomas Bean.
She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Bean, along with her loving family: Pam Ray, Scott Bean, Nikki–Dee Ray, and David Wren, and their children, Thomas Copeland Wren, Windley–Ray Wren, and Ruthie–Bee Wren.
She is also survived by her children: Al and Vanta Moore; Renee and Shelton Barnett; and Jay and Jennifer Moore.
Affectionately known as “Granny,” by five grandchildren three bonus grandchildren and two great grandchildren she was deeply loved by her Christy Moore, Kayla and Craig Buie, Eric and Hannah Barnett, Brittany Moore, Ashley Counce, Cile Counce, Jaycie Cole, and Walker Counce.
She was also lovingly called “Nene” by two little boys who adored her and whom she loved with all her heart, great grandchildren, William and Henry Barnett.
Frances is also survived by her best friend of over 50 years, Lois Ann Gilbert.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Maury Regional Home Health, Compassus Palliative Care, Arden Hospice, and Dr. Andrew Nielsen for the exceptional care, love, and compassion shown. A special thank you is also extended to her devoted caregivers, Crystal Williams Kim Smyser, and Phyllis Dial who cared for her as if she were their own mother.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Monday, March 23, 2026, with Kevin Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Weslev Chapel Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to Lawrence County Fire and Rescue. Condolences may be sent by way of our website at www.nealfuneralhome.net.
