NWS Confirms EF1 Tornado in Bonnertown Area

Damage surveys conducted following Sunday night’s severe weather have confirmed that a tornado impacted the Bonnertown, TN community in southeastern Lawrence County.

Assessment teams from the National Weather Service office in Nashville determined that an EF1 tornado with maximum winds of approximately 105 mph touched down in Alabama before moving east-northeast through extreme southeast Lawrence County and lifting in Giles County.

According to the survey team, the tornado traveled 14.53 miles with a maximum width of approximately 400 yards. The most significant damage occurred in the Bonnertown community, where several homes sustained heavy damage or were destroyed.

Additional ground assessments conducted by Lawrence County and State EMA personnel documented the following residential impacts:

7 homes destroyed

4 homes with major damage

3 homes with minor damage

1 home affected

These totals represent residential structures only and do not include barns, garages, or other outbuildings that were also damaged during the storm.

Emergency response crews from multiple agencies assisted with the immediate response Sunday night, clearing roadways, checking damaged structures, and ensuring residents were safe. Only a few minor injuries were reported.  Lawrenceburg Utility System crews worked through the night and most of the day on Monday to restore power.
