The Lawrence County Historical Society will meet at 6:30 PM Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center. Theresa Craigie, an ER nurse, will give a PowerPoint presentation on the vital role of American military nurses during World War II, including their growth, duties, and medical equipment. Fewer than 1,000 U.S. Army nurses were on active duty at the start of the war, growing to over 57,000 by 1945, with over 77,000 total army and navy nurses serving. Nurses served in the Army Nurse Corps, Navy Nurse Corps, and Cadet Nurse Corps, providing essential care both at home and overseas in Europe and the Pacific. WWII nurse and medical equipment will be on display. Members and guests are encouraged to attend.
