A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned later this month for a massive U.S. Navy manufacturing facility being developed at the former Barton Railcar Plant in Barton, Alabama.
According to a report by the Quad Cities Daily, the 2.2-million-square-foot facility will produce subcomponents for the U.S. Navy and support advanced manufacturing tied to the Navy’s submarine and maritime industrial base.
The announcement was made Monday by U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville during an update at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
The site, known as Factory 4, represents a $2 billion capital investment and is expected to bring between 750 and 1,500 jobs to the region.
The project is part of a broader expansion of Alabama’s maritime industrial base, which also includes submarine module manufacturing in Mobile by Austal USA.
Officials say the new plant will help strengthen U.S. manufacturing connected to national defense and advanced industrial production.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for March 20. Tuberville said Pete Hegseth and John Phelan are expected to attend the event. Further details about the ceremony are expected in the coming weeks.
