A two-vehicle crash in Lauderdale County Monday afternoon claimed the life of a Florence woman, according to media sources.
Authorities report the crash occurred at approximately 3:01 PM on March 9 on Alabama Highway 17 near the 338-mile marker, about half a mile south of St. Florian. Brittney D. Ellis, 38, of Florence, was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue when it collided head-on with a 2019 Ford Explorer driven by Carolyn Mauldon, 76, of Iron City, Tennessee.
Officials say Ellis was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lauderdale County coroner. Mauldon was injured and transported to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment.
Three passengers in the Nissan Rogue—a 16-year-old, a 10-year-old, and a 2-year-old—were also injured and taken to a local hospital. Authorities have not released the extent of their injuries.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash.
