In the past 60 days, Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has responded to several structure fires. Reports confirm that 4 people sustained burn injuries while trying to escape their homes. A common factor in the last 8 residential structure fires, including the incidents where injuries occurred, was the absence of working smoke alarms.
To help prevent further injuries, Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has partnered with the State of Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office to provide working smoke alarms free of charge. Working smoke alarms are proven to save lives by alerting occupants immediately to smoke conditions, giving residents more time to safely exit their homes.
Residents interested in having free smoke alarms installed can contact Lawrence County Fire & Rescue via private message on their Facebook page, by calling 931-201-3364, or by reaching out to their local fire station.
