Members from 13 fire stations across the county work together to ensure residents receive help when they need it most. While the trucks and turnout gear may differ, the crews operate as one team under the motto: “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”

In August 2025, Lawrence County Fire Rescue implemented a new program to supplement volunteer firefighters with part-time daytime staff Monday through Friday, when many volunteers are unavailable due to work commitments. The initiative, initially met with skepticism, has strengthened relationships among personnel and provided support for volunteers who continue to carry the majority of calls.

Officials say the program has improved both public and firefighter safety, ensuring immediate responses during hours when coverage was previously limited. The department expressed gratitude to all community members and supporters who have helped make the program a success.

An accompanying photograph from the department highlights the teamwork and dedication of the county’s first responders.
