Infant Dies After Vehicle Crashes Into Pond

An infant died Sunday evening after a vehicle carrying the child crashed into a pond near the 200 block of Napier Road and CC Road in Lawrence County, TN, according to reporting by NewsChannel 5.

District Attorney Brent Cooper confirmed that an adult male was driving and the infant was in an unsecured car seat at the time of the crash. The driver escaped from the vehicle, but the infant, still strapped in the car seat, was thrown into the water and died at the scene.

A dive team responded to the pond. Both Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were on scene. The driver is being questioned and will undergo testing to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved. Criminal charges are pending, according to DA Cooper.
