Arrest Made in Athens Home Invasion Robbery

Limestone County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Highway 99 in Athens Wednesday, regarding a home invasion with shots fired.  The resident reported finding a man breaking into his vehicle. He said the man pointed a rifle at him and chased him into his home where he was able to grab a firearm and shoot the subject multiple times. The man then fled the scene.  Tanner Stewart Phillips, 31, of Hartselle, who subsequently sought treatment for gunshot wounds, was arrested on charges of vehicle burglary and first degree robbery, and first degree burglary.  At the time of the incident, officials say he was wearing a ski mask and a bulletproof vest, and was armed with both a rifle and a handgun.
