Fifth grade students at Leoma Elementary School presented The Butterfly Foundation with a donation of more than $700 Thursday. The students held both a coin drive and a “hat day” fundraiser to collect funds while celebrating their one-thousandth day of school. The Butterfly Foundation, was created in 2007 in memory of Wayne County’s Ryleigh Stegall who died from at age 7 from leukemia. Her family created the foundation to support other struggling families with ill children. As of February 1, the foundation has provided funding to families totaling more than $1.5 million – with a third of that money going to support families in Lawrence County.
