Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner has issued an executive order extending the county’s local state of emergency for an additional seven days as recovery efforts continue following Winter Storm Fern.

The extension follows the original emergency declaration issued January 25 after the storm brought significant ice accumulation and dangerously low temperatures across the county. Officials said those conditions led to impassable roadways, power outages, lack of access to clean water, and other hardships for residents.

In the executive order, Keltner cited the continued impact of the storm throughout Lewis County as the reason for extending the emergency status. The extension took effect immediately.

County officials say the declaration allows local government to continue coordinating response and recovery efforts and to access additional resources as needed while conditions improve.

The executive order was signed February 1.
