Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services responded to 635 requests for service during January, according to its monthly activity report.

Of those calls, 418 patients were transported. EMS crews completed 66 transports or transfers to Maury Regional Medical Center, 13 to North Alabama Medical Center, and five to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System–Pulaski. An additional 39 patients were transported to facilities in other counties.

The report also shows 120 calls resulted in refusal of care or no care being required. Crews responded to 26 calls involving fire standby, law enforcement assistance, or mutual aid requests, while 73 calls were canceled or involved no patient being found.

EMS officials noted that call volume for January increased slightly compared to December and was also slightly higher than January of the previous year.

During the month, responders participated in continuing education covering domestic violence and bloodborne pathogens through an online system, along with in-person training in basic life support and ventilator, airway, and hemodynamics management.

The department also recognized EMS personnel for their efforts during a recent ice storm, noting that several employees remained at stations throughout the weekend to ensure adequate staffing and continued emergency response capabilities.

EMS officials said the statistics are accurate to the best of their knowledge, noting that minor discrepancies may occur due to reporting software limitations and the wide range of EMS responses.
