Just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, Lawrence County E-911 received a call for a female in active labor. Lawrence County EMS Units 210 and 207 responded and began transporting the patient to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg.
During transport, Paramedics Michael Wright and Jason Ritch determined that delivery was imminent. The crew safely pulled over at Rick’s BBQ in Loretto, where additional EMS personnel assisted with the delivery. At approximately 3:28 p.m., a healthy baby girl, Kalani Odom, was born weighing 6 lbs. 9 oz. and measuring 18 inches long. Both mother and baby are reported to be doing well. Following the birth, the family was transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg.
The LCEMS team members involved were Paramedic Michael Wright, Paramedic Jason Ritch, AEMT Cindy McDow, and AEMT Dylan Newton. Lawrence County E-911 also provided pre-arrival guidance to support the delivery.
Kalani’s birth was a successful example of the training and preparedness of Lawrence County EMS crews.
