The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) continues to urge motorists to stay home as crews work to clear interstate and state routes following recent winter storms. Crews are on day seven of around-the-clock operations and are making progress despite challenging conditions.
TDOT reports statewide efforts include:
39,000 equipment hours
71,000 labor hours
61,000 tons of salt applied
1.4 million gallons of brine used
510,000+ miles of roadway treated
2,300+ incidents managed
Thousands of trees cleared
While interstates and priority state routes are improving, many secondary roads remain unsafe. TDOT is focused on restoring connectivity for both motorists and utility crews working to restore power.
Governor Bill Lee recently signed Executive Order 111, allowing TDOT to assist with snow and ice clearance on non-state roads. Deployment on local roads requires a request through the city or county via the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA). Additional crews and contractors have been mobilized to speed recovery.
Motorists traveling for essential needs are urged to use extreme caution, reduce speed, increase following distance, and watch for icy patches, downed trees, and power lines.
