Gas prices across Tennessee moved higher last week, rising five cents on average. The statewide average now stands at $2.49 a gallon — still one cent cheaper than a month ago and 31 cents less than this time last year.
AAA says recent price swings have been modest, with pump prices alternating between small increases and decreases from week to week. Despite the fluctuation, drivers continue to benefit from significantly lower prices compared to a year ago.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline rose a few cents to $2.82 a gallon, well below last year’s $3.12 average. Lower January demand and cheaper winter-blend fuel are helping keep prices in check, even as markets monitor tensions involving Iran and global oil supply.
In Tennessee, the most expensive metro markets are Nashville at $2.59, Cleveland and Jackson at $2.54. The least expensive markets are Kingsport and Morristown at $2.42, followed closely by Knoxville at $2.43.
