Gas prices across Tennessee fell six cents over the past week, moving the state into the ninth least expensive gasoline market in the nation.
The statewide average is now $2.44 a gallon, 15 cents lower than one month ago and 29 cents less than this time last year. AAA says lower seasonal demand and strong fuel supply are keeping prices down, with little change expected in the short term.
Nationally, the average price for regular gas is $2.79, the lowest level since March 2021. Gasoline demand declined last week while domestic supply increased, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Oil prices were lower in Wednesday’s trading session, with West Texas Intermediate crude settling at $55.99 a barrel.
In Tennessee, the most expensive metro markets are Nashville at $2.52, Jackson at $2.51, and Memphis at $2.45. The least expensive markets are Morristown at $2.34, Knoxville at $2.36, and Chattanooga at $2.39.
