The Spring Hill Police Department is warning residents of a “missed jury duty” scam that has been circulating in the area. During past days, they have taken a report where a victim was scammed out of $2,500. Scammers tried to bilk another resident out of $9,000, however the resident refused to pay. The caller’s phone number is spoofed, appearing to come from the sheriff’s office, and victims were instructed to pay fees by way of Western Union. Residents are asked never to give out personal or banking information, and never to send money under these conditions. Instead, contact your local law enforcement agency to verify whether the call is legitimate.
