First National Bank is warning customers about scam text messages posing as the bank’s Fraud Department and claiming fraudulent debit card transactions.

According to the bank, the current scam message lists a charge at *Wal-Mart for $286.43. When recipients respond “NO,” they may receive follow-up phone calls or emails asking for debit card numbers, PINs, passwords, or verification codes.

First National Bank emphasized that it will never ask customers to provide debit card numbers, PINs, passwords, or one-time codes by text, email, or phone. The bank’s fraud alerts only require a YES or NO response.

Customers are urged not to respond to suspicious messages and to contact First National Bank directly at 866-363-2585 with any questions.

Customers concerned about debit card activity can turn their card off through the mobile banking app under Card Controls. The bank also encourages mobile banking users to enroll in debit card controls to set transaction, location, and merchant alerts, and to freeze cards if fraud is suspected.

Bank officials noted that scam messages may change merchants or dollar amounts and advised customers to remain cautious with all unsolicited communications.

For assistance or questions, customers should contact First National Bank at 866-363-2585.
