The Giles County Sheriff’s Office serves and protects the citizens of the county 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year, patrolling more than 600 square miles to keep the community safe. Through December, deputies have responded to 610 calls for service, including 10 domestic violence-related calls. They conducted 137 traffic stops, made 39 bookings, served 127 warrants, and completed 170 civil process actions. Of the 610 calls, deputies conducted six death investigations: two were determined to be from natural causes, one was ruled a homicide, and three were suicides.

The holiday season can be especially challenging for mental health due to increased stress, loneliness, and grief. Seasonal depression is common during this time, and it is critically important to take any talk of suicide seriously. Social media may sometimes be used by individuals as a way to seek help, so it is important to respond with mindfulness and compassion. The strongest people may be fighting the hardest battles, and checking on family, friends, and loved ones is encouraged.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or chat online at 988lifeline.org. In emergencies, call 911 immediately. For non-emergency mental health support, Centerstone offers services including outpatient therapy, medication management, school-based therapy, intensive in-home services, and other treatment options to help individuals through difficult times.
