Significant flooding and wind damage were reported Thursday night (12/18) across Lawrence County following heavy storms.
Flooded roads were reported on East Gaines Street, Annie Rooney Road, Springer Road, Weakley Creek Road, North Locust Avenue, and Buffalo Road, as well as in the Five Points area. Some residents noted recurring drainage issues, particularly on Stephens Street near Buffalo Road, where flooding is said to potentially reach waist-deep during heavy rain.
High winds caused widespread property damage in the county. In Ethridge on Buffalo Road, a heavy-duty portable garage was blown across approximately one acre of land into a tree. On the same property, the storm also cracked a window and blew a window screen inward. A tree also fell on a residence on Jill Drive in the New Prospect area, causing partial structural collapse. Several power outages were reported throughout the county as a result of the storms.
