Glendora Staggs Leigh, age 81, passed from this life into eternal rest on December 16, 2025 at St. Thomas-Rutherford Hospital, Murfreesboro, TN.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Leigh, Jr.; her parents, Monroe and Agnes Staggs; an infant niece, Lindsay Nicole Ledford; and an infant great-nephew, Lawson John Walker. She is survived by her two sisters, Sharon Eady of Lawrenceburg, TN and Lisa Haynes (Jeff) of Clyde, NC; two brothers, Bruce Staggs (Rosemary), of Franklin, TN and Larry Staggs of Johnson City, TN, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Glendora graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1962 and shortly thereafter, attended Draughon Business College in Nashville, TN. After graduating, she began her career at the State of Tennessee and held various executive secretarial and administrative positions until her retirement in 1996. Glendora met the “love of her life” in the summer of 1964 in Nashville. She and Jim were married on New Year’s Day, 1965. She took a short sabbatical in 1972 to join her husband in Washington, DC where he was employed. As true Tennesseans and nature lovers, she and her husband soon returned to their home state and families. After her retirement from the State of Tennessee, she and her husband of 54 years, retired to their Brush Creek farm, the homeplace of Glendora’s paternal grandparents and father. She also was employed for a number of years at the Employee Resources Credit Union in Lawrenceburg after her retirement from the State.
A devout Christian since the time she was baptized at the age of 12 in a creek near their country church, Glendora deeply loved her family and friends and nothing pleased her more than to be in the midst of a big crowd with her glass of sweet tea and good ole’ country cooking. She enjoyed her Red Hat Society friends and being a part of the Silver Quills. She was lovingly nicknamed “chatterbox” by a few of her friends.
A private graveside service and inurnment for Glendora Staggs Leigh will be conducted at a later date at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery where her parents and husband are buried. The family will also have a Celebration of Life to honor her and memorialize all the wonderful things she meant to her family and friends. Family suggests memorials be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery, c/o Ronnie Moore, Trustee, 340 Valley Road, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464 or Friends of Lawrence County Animals, 815 Gaither Ave., Lawrenceburg, TN 38464 c/o Ginger Morgan. Neal Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences may be sent by way of www.nealfuneralhome.net.
