A Wednesday afternoon residential fire on Walnut Avenue prompted a large emergency response after multiple explosions were reported at the scene.

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department was dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to a structure fire in the Walnut Avenue area. While en route, crews were advised of multiple explosions. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions coming from the basement and first floor, along with several secondary exposure fires. Crews also experienced an additional explosion involving a propane cylinder.

Firefighters made entry to conduct an aggressive interior attack and completed a primary search to confirm no occupants were inside the structure. Due to worsening structural conditions, crews were later withdrawn and operations transitioned to a defensive attack. The fire was brought under control at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Units from the Lawrenceburg Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and began an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. All further inquiries are being directed to the Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Lawrenceburg Fire Department thanked Lawrence County Fire & Rescue for assisting at the scene and for providing coverage for other calls during the incident.
