On Sunday, December 14, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Lawrence County deputies responded to a residence on Railroad Bed Pike in Summertown near the Lawrence/Lewis County line. According to a press release from Sheriff John Myers, deputies reported that two individuals entered the home unannounced and began an argument with the homeowner. One of the individuals then fired a weapon at the homeowner before both suspects fled the scene.
Witnesses provided a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle. Maury County deputies later located the vehicle in the Mt. Pleasant area of Maury County, where the individual who fired at the Summertown homeowner, identified as Jeremiah Dobbins (DOB: 03/20/03), was shot by deputies. Dobbins was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
At the request of 22nd Judicial District Attorney General Brent Cooper, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents are independently investigating the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews. The TBI will share its findings with the District Attorney General, who will determine whether the deputies’ actions were justified. The TBI does not identify officers involved and refers such questions to the respective department.
Updates on the investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
