The Lawrenceburg City Council met Thursday, December 11, opening the session with a tribute to Lawrence County Attorney Charlie Holt, who died the night before. Mayor Blake Lay led the council in a moment of silence in his memory.
During the meeting, Officer Keith Sandlin was presented a Life Saving Award for rescuing a person on the Highway 64 overpass on November 24.
The council approved Ordinance No. 1447, which updates Title 17, Chapter 1 of the municipal code regarding refuse and trash disposal, including service fees for collection and removal of refuse, trash, garbage, and other materials. Ordinance No. 1448 was also passed, rezoning a portion of the John P. Sharp Family Trust property on Flatwoods Road from R-1 (Large Lot Residential) to I-1 (Light Industrial), following a recommendation from the Planning Commission.
Several resolutions were approved as well. The council agreed to a contract with SportsGrass USA for turf installation at six baseball fields in and near Bobby Brewer Park, though Councilman Darryl Watson voted no, calling for greater transparency in city business. A separate agreement with Musco Lighting was approved for installation of lights at the Babe Ruth and high school baseball fields after extensive discussion. The council also approved a lease agreement with Evers Construction Company, Inc. for property at 306 Seventh Street (Parcel 078K E021.00) and passed the second amendment to the development agreement for the Good Hope Subdivision with LUS and Calara.
The meeting concluded with Councilman Robin Williams delivering his annual Christmas message.
