Watch Out for Grand Jury Scam in Lawrence County

Watch out for a SCAM : Local residents in Lawrence County were targeted as recently as Tuesday morning by a grand jury scam. Please stay alert and make others aware. WLX Radio contacted District Attorney Brent Cooper, who offered the following statement: “I have been contacted multiple times recently by concerned individuals who have received phone calls telling them that they are subject to being arrested for various reasons. The caller will then give them the option of sending money instead of being arrested. I can say unequivocally that this is a scam. No one in the court system or in law enforcement is going to call an individual who has an active warrant and demand money from them. I recommend that anyone who receives one of these calls, tells the person calling that they are going to contact law enforcement, then hang up. Also, it is very important that you never give these people any identifying information such as your address, social security number, etc.”
