Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has expanded its weekday supplemental staffing program to Ethridge Station 2 and Leoma Station 8, placing two trained personnel at each location from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The change took effect Monday, December 1.
The program, originally launched in August with a three-person crew based at the Training Center Station, was created to ensure quick daytime responses when many volunteers are working. A recent quarterly review showed the effort has already helped protect lives and property.
Officials determined the program would be more effective if crews were moved out of Lawrenceburg and into the county to shorten response times, especially near schools and major roadways. To support the move, the LCFR Board unanimously approved funding for an additional staff position during its November 25 meeting.
Fire officials emphasized that volunteers remain the backbone of the department and credited them for supporting the program and allowing career personnel to operate from their stations.
