Steven Michael “Mike” Johns, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Ethridge, Tennessee, at the age of 66. Born on January 29, 1959, in Cullman, Alabama, Mike’s life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and the joy of simple pleasures.
Mike was a man of integrity and hard work, qualities that he carried throughout his life. He began his career at the young age of 17, joining the team at Murray Ohio, where he dedicated many years of service until his retirement. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and community.
In 1978, Mike married the love of his life, Peggy, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter in Ethridge, Tennessee. They raised three children, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. Mike’s home was always filled with warmth and welcome, a reflection of his generous spirit.
An avid sportsman in his youth, Mike’s passion for showing horses earned him numerous trophies, and his prowess on the football field was well-known during his time at LCHS. Later in life, he found joy in coon hunting, a hobby that allowed him to immerse himself in the beauty of nature and the companionship of good friends.
Mike’s legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Peggy Johns; his mother, Elizabeth “Ann” Johns; his daughters, Brecka Johns Murphy (Michael) and Brandy Johns Bailey (Tommy); nine grandchildren, Hunter, Drew, Nathan, Matt, Jasmine, Elijah, Mikia, Julia, and Christopher; even more great-grandchildren, Kaden, Liam, Scottie, Ray, Violet, Alex, Azariah, Holley, Gabriel, Collin, Eli, Hudson, Jayden, Jace, Draco, Khaos, Oceana, Forrest, Meadow, Memphis, Wylder, and Jagger; one sister, Debbie Long of Ethridge, TN; several nieces and nephews, Sara, Shane Shannon, Cody, Michael, Ashley, Brianna, Racheal, David, Sissy, Kayla, and Cassie; aunts and uncles, Sherry Calvert (Gary) , Benny Johns (Margie), Dewey Johns (Darcie). His life was enriched by the deep relationships he formed with each of them, and their memories of him will be treasured forever.
Though he was preceded in death by his father, Luther Delton Johns; his son, Anthony Michael “Tony” Johns; and his grandson, Kaleb Lee Johns, Mike’s spirit continues to inspire all who knew him. His recent baptism on October 27, 2025, was a profound expression of his faith and a comfort to those he left behind.
The family takes solace in knowing that Mike’s strength and love will live on through the stories shared by his grandchildren and the enduring bonds he fostered within his community. His life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication, love, and joy. His memory will be honored by those serving as pallbearers: Elijah, Hunter, Drew, Matt, Nathan, Angel, and Ray.
