Stephen Jared McConnell, 35, of Leoma, Tennessee passed away suddenly Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center. He was a 2008 graduate of Loretto High School and went on to receive a Welding Degree from Hinds Community College in Pearl, Mississippi in 2013. He was employed by Pettus Plumbing and Piping in Rogersville, AL. He was a member of Alabama Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 48. He also served his community as a Lawrence County reserve deputy and corrections officer from 2009 – 2012.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents S.D. “Bill” McConnell and Mildred McConnell of Leoma, TN, and one uncle, Barry L Wilson of Hartford, Al.
He is survived by his father, Sam McConnell (Lisa) of Leoma, TN; mother, Diane Wilson Boyette (David) of Kosciusko, MS. One brother, Joey McConnell (Andi) of Summertown, TN; grandparents Esther (Huntley) Wilson of Hartford, AL; and Lavan Wilson (Joyce) of Huntsville, AL: one uncle Larry Wilson (Dagmar) of Greenwood. FL; two aunts, Bethany Wilson of Hartford, AL, and Sue Leighton (Mickey) of Leoma, TN. Several great aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. He is surrounded by some very dear friends, whom he loved like brothers, as well as his beloved, LuLu, the Schnoodle whom he adored.
His family calls him Jared, while most of his friends know him as Stephen. His remarkably gentle spirit and kind heart are well known to those closest to him. Though often timid and quiet around those he did not know well, his heart and compassion was most moved by those he saw in need and down on their luck. He took steps that are beyond what any of us will ever fully know to ensure that others he found in need were fed and provided for to the extent he had the ability to help them. Jared and his family are believers in Christ Jesus our Lord, and we hold confidently to the hope we have in Him as our constant companion and eternal Redeemer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Ave, Lawrenceburg, TN, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home Chapel with Chad Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Center Point Baptist Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to God’s Storehouse. Condolences may be sent by way of our website at www.nealfuneralhome.net.
