AAA will again offer its “Tow to Go” program during the Thanksgiving travel period, providing free tows and rides for impaired drivers in an effort to reduce alcohol-related crashes.
The service will run from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, through 6 a.m. Monday, December 1. The program is available in Tennessee, including all areas served by AAA – The Auto Club Group. It is also offered in several other participating states.
Drivers can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO for a confidential ride and tow to a safe location within 10 miles. The program is open to both AAA members and non-members and is intended as a last-resort option when plans for a sober ride fall through.
AAA expects heavy holiday traffic, with more than 80 million Americans traveling at least 50 miles over Thanksgiving. Nearly 90 percent of those travelers are expected to drive.
Nationwide data continues to show the risk of impaired driving. More than 12,000 people died in alcohol-related crashes last year, and Thanksgiving weekend remains one of the most dangerous travel periods of the year.
AAA is encouraging motorists to plan for a sober ride in advance and use Tow to Go only if other options are unavailable.
