The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state highways for the Thanksgiving holiday. The pause begins at noon on Wednesday, November 26, and continues through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1.
AAA projects a record 1.8 million Tennesseans will travel by road for the holiday. TDOT Commissioner Will Reid said the move will ease congestion during peak travel days, particularly Wednesday and Sunday. HELP Truck drivers will be on duty throughout the weekend to assist motorists.
While lane closures will be halted, workers may still be present in some zones, and long-term closures will remain where necessary for safety. Motorists are reminded to obey posted speeds in work zones. Violators face fines up to $500, plus court fees and possible insurance increases.
