Gas prices in Tennessee rose seven cents over the past week, bringing the state average to $2.68 per gallon of regular unleaded. This is three cents lower than a month ago and one cent below this time last year, keeping Tennessee as the sixth least expensive market in the nation. AAA reports that as drivers prepare for Thanksgiving, prices are similar to last year’s holiday, when the state average was also $2.68. More than 1.8 million Tennesseans are expected to travel by car this Thanksgiving, representing 96% of holiday travelers. AAA recommends filling up the night before traveling and checking battery and tire pressure, noting that nearly 600,000 roadside assistance calls were made nationwide last year for dead batteries, flat tires, and empty tanks. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline held steady at $3.07, unchanged from last year. Gasoline demand rose slightly last week, while total domestic supply fell to 205.1 million barrels. West Texas Intermediate crude closed at $58.49 per barrel after a $2.55 drop, with U.S. crude inventories about 4% below the five-year average. In Tennessee, metro averages ranged from $2.62 per gallon in Morristown, Kingsport, and Clarksville to $2.75 in Nashville. Other metro averages include Jackson at $2.71, Memphis at $2.69, Chattanooga at $2.63, and Knoxville at $2.69.
