Lawrence County has been awarded a $487,200 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The funds will be used to improve the county’s water system, ensuring safe and reliable access for households and businesses. Senator Page Walley described the investment as essential for maintaining strong, sustainable infrastructure and emphasized its role in supporting public health and economic development in the county. Governor Bill Lee noted that the grant supports future economic growth and is part of funding awarded to 44 communities statewide. Deputy Governor and TNECD Commissioner McWhorter highlighted the CDBG program as a key tool for preparing Tennessee communities for future development and thanked local leaders for their efforts. CDBG funds are allocated based on priorities set through local public meetings and are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program supports water and sewer improvements, health and safety projects, and other initiatives to strengthen rural Tennessee communities.
