Edna Joe King Nelson

Mrs Edna Joe King Nelson, 83, of Somerville, TN, formerly of Lawrenceburg TN, passed away October 6th, 2025 at her home with her son by her side.

Mrs Nelson spent some of her childhood in Lawrenceburg,  before the family moved to  the Memphis area where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She attended The University of Memphis, before marrying James “Buddy” Nelson in in1966.

A few years later, they moved to Lawrenceburg, where the family ran King’s Lighting for many years. Later, they moved back to West Tennessee, and Mrs Nelson retired from The University of Memphis where she worked in the Residence Life Department.

Mrs Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, George & Lorine Toben King, her husband James “Buddy” Nelson, and one sister, Julia “Judy” King Weaver.

She is survived by her son, Lance Nelson; her grandchildren, Kristina Pilkinton (Jeffrey), of Columbia TN, Chelsie Willis (Josh), of Ellijay GA, Alex Hutcheson (Rachael), of Spring Hill, TN; as well as  seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial will be held Friday, November 14th beginning with visitation at 12:30 pm, rosary at 1:30 pm, and service at 2:00 pm at Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church,  11710 Highway 64 in  Somerville, TN.

A graveside service will follow on Monday November 17th  at 1:00 pm at Mimosa Cemetery, East Gaines St, Lawrenceburg TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations  be made to the Right to Life program through the Catholic Church.
