Every member of the Town of Cornersville Fire Department, including Fire Chief Matt Fox, has resigned, according to WKRN News 2. Fox submitted his resignation to the Mayor and Board of Alderpersons at their Thursday meeting, saying the decision “weighed heavily” and had been under consideration for some time. Each member of his six-person crew also submitted resignations independently, Fox said. The South Marshall Volunteer Fire Department, which is separate from Cornersville’s department, posted on social media that it will continue operations but noted the change could lead to slightly longer response times in Cornersville. The department also said Fox and his crew made their decisions independently and wished them well. In his resignation letter, Fox cited ongoing challenges in providing adequate fire protection for the town and personal tolls, including expenses and storing department records at home. He said all documentation, equipment, and accounts would be turned over to city officials. Fox added he is still working to notify state agencies of his resignation.
