Ruth Crews Pilkinton, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the venerable age of 96 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 14, 1928, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, Ruth was a lifelong resident who dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Evans and Beulah Houser Crews, Ruth was the cornerstone of a large and loving family. Her husband, James Boyd Pilkinton, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories, also predeceased her, as did her five sisters, Fannie Hill, Nona Guthrie, Mildred Smith, Polly Chaffin, and Frances Shay. Ruth’s legacy is carried on by her devoted son, Barry Pilkinton (Cindy) of Memphis, TN, and her caring daughter, Joni Franks (Mark) of Lawrenceburg, TN. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren, Lauren Moore (Steven), Erin Killen (Rick), Lindsay Franks, and Tyler Pilkinton, and a doting great-grandmother to Andrew, Logan, Opal, Ashlyn, Anslee, Hazel, Anna, and Riggs. Her sister, Joann Cryer of CA, also survives her, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were all touched by her generous spirit.
Ruth was a homemaker in the truest sense, creating a warm and welcoming home where all were greeted with open arms and the aroma of her delicious cooking. Her work within the home was a testament to her commitment to her family and her unwavering ability to provide a nurturing environment for all who entered. Ruth’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a dedicated member of the Springer Road Church of Christ. Her melodious voice was often heard singing hymns of praise and worship, uplifting the spirits of the congregation.
Ruth was known for her faith-filled heart and her loving nature. Those who knew her were inspired by her steadfast devotion to her beliefs and her endless capacity for kindness. She was a woman of quiet strength, facing life’s challenges with grace and courage, and always finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.
As we bid farewell to Ruth Crews Pilkinton, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved. Ruth’s presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact of her love, her faith, and her compassion will endure for generations to come.
