A Lawrence County deputy is being hailed a hero after rescuing a family cat from a burning home early Sunday morning, according to WKRN News 2. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reported that the fire broke out just after 4 a.m. Sunday, October 26, at a home on Beasley Road. When Deputy Bret Burleson arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and smoke alarms were sounding. Body camera footage showed Burleson and the homeowner entering the burning home to search for the family’s cat. They found the frightened orange cat hiding in a bedroom and carried him outside to safety as the fire intensified. Sheriff John Myers said he is proud of his deputies and their willingness to act quickly in dangerous situations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
