Over the weekend, Lawrence County Fire & Rescue units responded to several calls for service, including two structure fires. The first fire occurred in the West End Fire District shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. Units arriving on scene found a fully involved shop-style structure with fire spreading to a nearby wooded area. The property owners sustained minor burn injuries, but EMS transport was not required. WLX Reports responding stations included West End, Henryville, Gandy, and Leoma. The second fire was in the Ethridge Fire District, dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 26 following a fire alarm activation. When contacted by the alarm company, occupants, including children, confirmed the home was on fire and were evacuating. First-arriving units reported heavy fire involvement, which was stopped through an aggressive interior attack. No injuries occurred. A wood heater in use at the time is believed to be the cause. Responding stations included Ethridge, Henryville, Gandy, Lawrenceburg Fire, and LCEMA. Fire officials stress the importance of functioning home fire alarms, which aided in quicker notification in the Ethridge fire. With cooler temperatures arriving, residents are urged to inspect and clean heating systems before use, ensure proper ventilation, and maintain working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
