Shirley Ann Bennett

Shirley Ann Bennett, age 78, of Summertown, TN passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN.  She was a native of Lawrence County, TN, retired from Dura Automotive Systems,  and a member of Summertown Baptist Church.

Shirley lived her life with a heart full of love, adventure, and pride for her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren—the light of her life—cheering them on from the sidelines, the bleachers, or wherever their dreams took them. Whether it was a little league game, a volleyball match, or a basketball game, she never missed a moment to show her unwavering support.

Her love of travel mirrored her love of life—curious, joyful, and always ready for the next journey. From road trips to new destinations to spontaneous adventures, she embraced every opportunity to see the world and make memories with those she loved most.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James “Jim” and Annie “Ann” Brown Lanier; two brothers, Charles Lanier and Ricky Lanier; and one sister, Joyce Long.

She is survived by her husband, William Larry Bennett, Sr. of Summertown, TN; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Johnson (Lanesia) and William Larry Bennett, Jr. (Shannon), both of Summertown, TN; one sister, Betty Jennings (Terry) of Summertown, TN; two brothers, Jerry Lanier and Gary Lanier, both of Summertown, TN; and four grandchildren, Lexi Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jackson Bennett, and Callie Bennett.  Those serving as pallbearers are Cameron Johnson, Jackson Bennett, Mitch Knapp, Christopher Lanier, Todd Pennington, and Andrew Jones.

A special thanks is given to Gerry and Shannon Bennett for their help and care for Shirley.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with Ronnie Runnels officiating.  Interment will follow at Summertown Cemetery in Summertown, TN.  The family suggests memorials be made to Maury Regional Health Care Foundation Women’s Center Fund.  Condolences may be sent by way of our website at www.nealfuneralhome.net.
