Authorities confirmed Saturday that 16 people died in a massive explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) in Tennessee. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said all 16 families have been contacted. Earlier reports of 19 missing were revised after the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency confirmed three people previously thought to be on site were not present during the blast. First responders found the structure heavily damaged, and sheriff’s officials said there were no survivors inside the building. No injuries were reported among emergency personnel. The explosion has deeply affected the small, tight-knit community, with law enforcement and emergency responders personally knowing several AES employees. Counseling will be available at local schools to help residents cope with the tragedy. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Accurate Energetic Systems described the incident as a “tragic accident.” Federal authorities, including the ATF’s National Response Team, are participating in the multi-agency investigation alongside 18 local, state, and federal agencies. The ATF said its team will analyze and document the scene to determine whether the destruction was accidental or criminal in nature.
