The Lawrence County Commission met in regular session Tuesday, September 23, approving several measures and electing leadership. Shane Eaton was chosen as commission chair, with Dave Ray elected chair pro tempore, and Charlie Holt named county attorney. Commissioners approved budget amendments, appointments of Brandi Williams as director of accounts and budgets and Kelly Odom as purchasing agent, and changes to county employee policies. They also backed lowering the speed limit on Cemetery Road, closing part of Foster Road, funding SkillsUSA student travel, and providing $10,000 in additional support for Friends of Lawrence County Animals. A proposal for a $12.50 court fee failed, while an $800,000 request for a Lawrence County High School practice gym and two ambulance service-related resolutions were returned to committee for further review.
