The City of Florence Department of Arts and Museums will host a screening of the documentary Echoes of the Forks of Cypress by Frederick Murphy on Thursday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. The 45-minute film will be shown at the Southall Building, 209 E. Tuscaloosa Street, Florence. Funded by the Alabama Humanities Alliance as part of its “Healing History” initiative, the documentary explores the lives of the enslaved people and their enslavers at the Forks of Cypress plantation in Florence, Alabama. It highlights the daily lives, struggles, and resilience of the enslaved community while tracing efforts by descendants of both enslaved people and enslavers to confront the shared past and reimagine the plantation and its cemetery as spaces for remembrance and reflection. Tickets for the Florence screening are $15 and available at florencealmuseums.com/forks. Donations to support screenings and production can be made at florencealmuseums.com/donate by selecting “Gift your Support” and noting “Echoes” in the additional information box. For more information, contact Florence Arts and Museums at 256-760-6379 or email connect@florencealmuseums.com.
