New developments have surfaced in the case involving Deshler High School student August Borden, who suffered a severe skull fracture and concussion last month. According to WAAY 31, the Madison County District Attorney’s Office has taken over the investigation from Colbert County because of a potential conflict of interest. Borden was hospitalized after the incident at the school. His parents have questioned school officials’ explanation that the injuries came from a fall, noting that their son cannot remember what happened due to the severity of his condition. The family said Borden is missing his freshman year, including milestones like homecoming, and that he will not be able to play football again. They also expressed appreciation for the community’s support. Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard said his office is conducting interviews with students and other possible witnesses, calling it an active criminal investigation. If charges are filed, they will be processed through Franklin County’s juvenile probation office, with jurisdiction in Lawrence County District Court.
