Lawrence County Fire & Rescue says crews responded Tuesday afternoon to a large brush fire in the Leoma community that left one person seriously injured.
The call came in shortly after 2:30 p.m. for a grass fire, which was quickly upgraded to a blaze threatening structures. Responders found about five acres of corn field and brush burning and moving toward a building.
The injured person was treated on scene by Lawrence County EMS and fire units before being airlifted by medical helicopter.
Fire crews protected the threatened structure and extinguished the fire. Multiple Lawrence County Fire & Rescue stations responded, along with Lawrence County EMA, Lawrence County EMS, the Tennessee Division of Forestry, Loretto Fire Department, and local law enforcement.
The fire was determined to be accidental.
