Two men were arrested at the Florence Sam’s Club after police say they used stolen credit card numbers and fraudulent membership cards to purchase roughly $9,600 worth of merchandise, according to WAAY 31. The Florence Police Department reports that Jermaine Antonio Todd and James David Logan III each face five counts of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card and one count of organized retail theft. Officers responded to Sam’s Club at 364 Cox Creek Parkway on Tuesday following a report from a Florence resident that their credit or debit card had been used without permission. Loss prevention personnel at Sam’s Club identified the suspects through security camera footage. Police located Todd and Logan near a large Penske box truck, where they were observed loading merchandise. Both were detained, and Florence Police’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. Investigators say the men were using stolen credit card numbers and fraudulent Sam’s Club membership cards while scanning items on their cell phones to make purchases. Police also determined the suspects are part of a larger organized theft ring operating across the southeastern United States, targeting several big-box retailers. Other Sam’s Club locations in Huntsville, AL, and Southaven, MS, have reportedly been targeted by the group. Following the arrests, Florence Police commended the citizen who reported suspicious activity on their bank account. Authorities emphasized the importance of monitoring your bank accounts and encouraged anyone who notices unusual activity to contact the Florence Police Department at 256-760-6610.
