Lewis County Government has awarded $31,544 in opioid abatement funds to the Lewis County Faith Based Recovery Coalition, supporting recovery initiatives and addiction treatment efforts in the community. The Coalition, formed six years ago by local church leaders, provides faith-driven programs, education, and support services for individuals and families impacted by addiction. Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner said the county and commissioners are committed to being part of the solution to the opioid crisis by investing in the lives of local citizens and offering hope for those struggling with addiction. Funding comes from Tennessee’s share of a multi-billion-dollar settlement with pharmaceutical companies over their role in the national opioid crisis. By law, the money must be used for opioid abatement and recovery efforts. To qualify, the Coalition completed an extensive application and interview process and will provide annual reports showing how funds are used and what outcomes are achieved. Pastor Jeff Gandy said the funding will allow the Coalition to expand outreach efforts, strengthen recovery resources, and further promote a culture of resilience and healing within the county. For more information about the Coalition’s recovery programs, contact Pastor Jeff Gandy at (931) 796-4226.
