U.S. Space Command Headquarters is officially moving to Huntsville, according to WAAY 31 News. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Redstone Arsenal is slated to become headquarters for the Department of Defense’s 11th Combatant Command. Space Command oversees the protection of satellites and military operations in orbit. The current headquarters is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Alabama lawmakers have championed the move since Trump first signaled the decision during his first term in 2021. Sen. Tommy Tuberville previously said relocating the headquarters could bring more than a thousand jobs to North Alabama during the first year. The move is expected to bring a major influx of federal investment and jobs to North Alabama, further solidifying Huntsville’s role as a national leader in space and defense. The effort to bring U.S. Space Command to Huntsville has been in the works for several years.
